Thunder Athletics Weekly Recap - Week 6
Heading into the Thanksgiving weekend, it was Thunder Soccer with the only games over said weekend, as both teams played at home vs. The King’s University Eagles on Saturday.
For women’s soccer, the win streak continued, as they defeated the Eagles in a tight 1-0 game. The game winning goal was scored by fourth year midfielder Amy Fayant, putting the ball just high enough for the King’s keeper to get a hand on it, but not enough to keep it from the back of the net. The defence again stood tall, only allowing 1 shot total all game. This win makes it six in a row for women’s soccer, pushing their record to an incredible 9-1-1 as they continue to hold down first place in the ACAC North Division.
On the men’s side, the result was a great one, as the Thunder took down the Eagles 1-0. The goal scorer was Carlos Echeverria, who scored yet another penalty kick goal, this time in the 35th minute. Rostyslav Leha secured his third clean sheet of the season, stopping four shots on the day. Leha moves into third all time for clean sheets in Thunder Men’s Soccer history with eight. With the win, the Thunder men move to 4-4-3, good for fourth in the ACAC North Division.
Thunder Soccer looks to finish the regular season on a positive note this coming weekend, as they go up against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at home on Sunday October 19th. This will be the final game for many Thunder soccer players, as we will honour 10 total athletes between both teams during our Senior’s Day Celebrations.
