Thunder Hold Off Clippers for Third Straight Win
EDMONTON, AB (February 11, 2022) – Concordia University of Edmonton Men's Hockey team played against the Briercrest Clippers and ended in a 3-2 win. The game was hard played by both teams. With back and forth play between both teams, the Thunder were the successful team tonight.
The first period showed hard work from both teams with many chances on net but strong defense holding the period to a 0-0 tie. Finding their momentum and drive, the Thunder came back strong in the second period. Within the first five minutes, Thunder #17 Colten Gerlib scored with an assist by #13 Tristan Gagnon. This was followed by another goal in the sixth minute by #21 Tyler Benko. We saw a little more body as time ran out and the second period closed out in favor to the Thunder 2-0.
The third period started like the previous with another goal from Thunder #4 Xavier Parenteau, assisted by #14 Rylan Nivon. But we saw a big push as the Clippers fought hard and scored a goal in the ninth minute by #20 Zach Ashworth. We continued to see more body and strong defense resulting in back and forth play. With less than two minutes left on the clock, Briercrest Clippers #7 Jacob Arsenault scored to bring the end of the period to 3-2. Working hard to find results, the Clippers pulled their goalie for the rest of the game but ultimately your Thunder took the tonight's match 3-2.
After the game, Concordia Thunder #8 Brandon Wallis commented, "It was a hard fought battle. They battled back there at the end but we were able to get those two points and that was all we needed. We just gotta come ready tomorrow because we know they're gonna be pushing hard."
