Thunder Take Down Vikings in Home Ice Thriller

Thunder Take Down Vikings in Home Ice Thriller

EDMONTON, AB (November11, 2019)

On Friday night the Concordia Thunder hosted the Augustana Vikings for their first meeting of the season where the Thunder were able hang on for the 3-2 win in a thrilling finish. The players of the game were #22 Travis Mayan (1G) for the Vikings and #14 Keegan Tiringer (1G) for the Thunder.

The Thunder opened scoring in the first period with a goal from #22 Aaron Petten after out shooting the Vikings 10-4 in first frame. #21 Jack Hamly was able to find the back of the net for the Vikings to leave the score tied 1-1 heading into the break.

The second period saw action at both ends of the rink however it was Concordia who seemed to control the pace of play outshooting the Vikings 12-6. Both netminders looked sharp to keep this battle even heading into the third.

After outshooting the Vikings 12-6 in the period, it wasn't until the 15-minute mark where #41 Peter Tomaras gave Concordia the lead. The offense continued to roll for the Thunder as #14 Keegan Tiringer put away a one timer on the power play to give the Thunder a 3-1 lead midway through the third.

As the Vikings saw precious time ticking away in the third period #22 Travis Mayan took advantage on the power play to bring them within in one goal. As desperation began to kick in, the Vikings pulled Curtis Skip at the 1:20 mark to add the extra attacker. The Vikings controlled the puck in the Concordia zone the entire time creating many scoring chances however #30 Tanner McCorriston was able to make some key saves to secure the win for the Thunder 3-2.

In between the pipes #30 Tanner McCorriston was able to make 16 saves for Concordia and #31 Curtis Skip made 29 saves Augustana.
