Big Win at Home for the Thunder

Big Win at Home for the Thunder

EDMONTON, AB - NOVEMBER 9, 2018

On Friday night the Concordia Thunder hosted the Briercrest Clippers in their first matchup of the season at Bill Hunter Arena where the Thunder would roll on to a 7-3 win.

The Thunder opened up the first period strong outshooting the Clippers 23-11. #17 Curtis Peck netted the first goal of the game short handed which would be followed by two unanswered goals from #37 Phil Dillon and #07 Adam Moghrabi to end the period up 3-0.

The Thunder once again found the back of the net first in the 2nd period with a goal from #14 Jakob Lavoie however, the Clippers quickly responded with two goals from #14 Austin Kozluk to bring them within reach of a two goal deficit. Before the period ended, Thunder's #27 Adam Wheeldon scored a short handed goal to steal the momentum up 5-3 heading into the locker room.

With the Clippers desperately trying to get back into the game, #18 Josh Boelema scored to bring them within three. The Thunder were hungry for their first win of the season and #11 Ian McLellan buried the one timer home from a beautiful feed from #37 Phil Dillon to seal the deal. A late goal from #19 Chad Hurtubise gave the Thunder a 7-3 win on home ice.

01 Garrett Storms was solid for the Thunder stopping 29 of 32 shots faced for the win. #40 Dan Dekoning had a busy night between the pipes as he stopped 58 of 65 shots.

The ACAC Big Kahuna Players of the Game were #37 Phil Dillion (1G, 3A) and #14 Austin Koziuk (2G).

The two teams will face each other again tomorrow afternoon at Bill Hunter Arena (3:00PM Puck Drop).
