Thunder Hand Ooks First Loss Of The Season

EDMONTON, AB - The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder played host to the first place undefeated NAIT Ooks at the Clareview Arena on Friday night. The cross town rivals played a closely contested and exciting game, with the Thunder eventually pulling off the upset with a 3-2 win in overtime.

The NAIT Ooks opened the scoring early in the 1st period with a goal from 2nd year defenseman Issac Farrah (assists from #27 Jordan Davies and # #16 Jarid Hauptman), and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

In the 2nd period, the Thunder battled back with a quick goal by #27 Adam Wheeldon (assist from #37 Phil Dillon). Despite the effort, the NAIT offense was relentless in finding ways to get at 2nd year netminder Tanner McCorriston (#35), adding a 2nd goal by #4 Colton Waltz before the break to lead 2-1 after 2 periods of play.

The 3rd period was a tight back and forth affair with both sides getting their chances. Thunder's #6 Ben Sowa scored mid-way through the 3rd period to tie the game up at 2-2, eventually pushing the game to overtime.

In OT, Thunder's #37 Phil Dillon played the hero on a breakaway from a long pass by #21 Tyler Benko to score the winner, and the Thunder completed the upset with a 3-2 win over the NAIT Ooks.
