Thunder Fall Short In Friday Clash With Ooks
EDMONTON, AB (November 26, 2021) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the NAIT Ooks in Friday night action to open the two team's weekend home-and-home. Overall a tight match, the Ooks were able to finish late in sets as they took the match 3-1.
The opening set gave everyone a taste of what they were in for, as both teams played a tight game keeping pace with one another. After several lead changes, NAIT was able to take a lead late in the set and close it out 25-21. The second set was much the same – and in fact ended in the same way – as the Ooks took the lead late in the set and didn't look back picking up a 25-21 set victory. The Thunder were finally able to turn the tides in the third set. Taking control early, the Thunder withstood any comeback attempt by the Ooks in the set to hang on for a 25-22 win to push the match to a fourth set. In that extra set, however, the Ooks looked for redemption. Jumping out to an early lead of their own, they did to the Thunder what was done to them in the third set as they took a lead and didn't look back cruising to a 25-17 win and taking the match 3-1.
The One Team Sports players of the game were #2 Kate Krogen for NAIT and #4 Emma Derbyshire for Concordia.
The Thunder and Ooks meet again tomorrow night at NAIT as they close out their weekend series. The Thunder return home next Friday, and close out their first half schedule, as they welcome the Keyano Huskies.
