Thunder Grab Early Lead And Don’t Look Back In Win Over GPRC

EDMONTON, AB (November 19, 2021) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves Friday night. CUE grabbed the lead early in the first set and held back GPRC's comeback attempts as they won the match 3-0.

The Thunder came into the game buzzing as they took an early lead in the first set. The Wolves were able to make things interesting later in the set, but the Thunder were unaffected and held on to take the first set 25-20. The Thunder kept this momentum rolling into the second set as they held controlled and rolled through the set 25-15. The Wolves were able to push back in the third set, however, making things interesting down the stretch and even tying things up late in the set. But the Thunder had their eyes on the finish line and were able to take the set 25-21 to take the match in straight sets.

Interim Head Coach Karly Edgar spoke after the game about her team's performance: "our goal was to take care of the little things on our side and that's exactly what we did. Was it our best game played, no, but in moments we needed to step up, we did exactly that. We have room for improvement, and are ready to bring it for tomorrow's match.

The One Team Sports Players of the Game were #11 Karly Thomson for GPRC and #4 Emma Derbyshire for the Thunder.

The Thunder return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm as they play the second half of their weekend set against the Wolves.
