Concordia University Edged Out by Red Deer Polytechnic at Home

(EDMONTON, AB) In the final home game before the winter break, Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) faced off against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens. The Queens came into this game on a 6-game winning streak to start the season and the top seed in the South Division.

The first quarter saw Red Deer Polytechnic taking an early lead with a 24-19 advantage. Lauren France stood out for the visitors, contributing significantly to their offensive efforts with 18 points in the game. The second quarter continued to be competitive, with both teams looking to gain control. However, the Queens held onto their lead, heading into halftime with a 48-31 score.

Concordia showed resilience in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 18-9. Chloe DeKlerk played a pivotal role for the Thunder throughout the game, contributing a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Despite their efforts, Red Deer held onto a 57-49 lead going into the final quarter.

Despite the Thunder's comeback attempt in the second half, the Queens maintained control and secured the win. Backed by a strong defensive effort, Red Deer sealed their victory by limiting Concordia to just seven points offensively in the fourth quarter. The game concluded with a 72-56 win for the Queens.

CUE now looks to their next game at Olds college tomorrow afternoon followed by the winter break. Their next home game is scheduled against The King's University on January 13th at the Ralph King Athletic Centre. After the game tonight, the Thunder's current record stands at 3-6, while the Queens move to 7-0 on the season.
