Rustlers Outlast Thunder in the Home-Opener Battle

(EDMONTON, AB) In a thrilling women's basketball home opener, the Concordia Thunder faced off against the Lakeland Rustlers in a matchup that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Both teams showcased their skills and determination.

The game opened with the Lakeland Rustlers taking control, displaying impressive shooting from beyond the arc in the first half. However, the Concordia Thunder refused to back down, mounting a comeback in the third quarter. In a nail-biting final period, the Rustlers managed to secure the victory with a final score of 76-53.

Lakeland's standout performer was Alana Olson, who led her team with 18 points, showing accuracy from the three-point line. Hineaupounamu Nuku also had an exceptional game, contributing 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. The Rustlers managed to maintain their lead throughout the game, thanks to their collective defensive efforts and fast-break points.

Concordia's Hannah Mitchell and Jenna Rinsky put up a valiant effort, scoring 12 and 13 points, respectively. Despite a slow start, the Thunder's defense picked up in the second half, with Rachel Harvey collecting 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. However, the late surge wasn't enough to secure the victory.
