First Half Lead Puts Huskies Over Thunder

First Half Lead Puts Huskies Over Thunder

EDMONTON, AB (February 6, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder closed out their jam packed weekend by welcoming the Keyano Huskies Sunday afternoon. A tight game early, the Huskies took a lead in the second quarter and kept that momentum to take the game 75-67.

After a quick and intense first quarter, the Keyano Huskies got a small lead over the Thunder with a quarter finish of 25-20. Keeping that momentum, the Huskies caused a huge swing and outscored the Thunder 22-14, ultimately taking the half with a score of 46-34. Thunder came into the third quarter with intensity as they worked to close the gap but the Huskies held onto their momentum and took the third quarter 67-52. The fourth quarter started the same way, both teams playing a tight game. Thunder kept the Huskies on their toes as they continued to close the gap but the game ultimately went to the Keyano Huskies 75-67.

Head coach Robbie Valpreda spoke after the game about his team's performance: "Today's game showed our true character as we battled an experienced and good team. Having played three games in three days and the circumstances with having two starters out of the line up and the way we competed is something we, as coaches, are very proud of. This team battled, out worked them and didn't give up. They won the battle, we won the war!"

The One Team Sports Players of the game were #3 Zera Panesa and #9 Kaelyn Bryks for the Concordia Thunder.

The Thunder return to action next Sunday, February 13th to play the Grande Prairie Wolves.
