Thunder Fall Short to Augustana Vikings

Thunder Fall Short to Augustana Vikings

EDMONTON, AB (February 4, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Augustana Vikings Friday night to continue their regular season. A tight game early on but the Augustana Vikings outscored in the second half to take the game 74-69.

The first quarter started with both teams playing an exciting and tight first half. After back to back points, Thunder took the first quarter 17-16. Keeping that momentum, the point by point fight continued and your Thunder #9 Kaelyn Bryks ended the half with a jump shot to bring the game to a tie 32-32. After the half we saw another tight quarter but ultimately the Augustana Vikings snuck out the third quarter win with 52-49. The fourth quarter started the same way, both teams playing a tight game. We saw a great second half from #3 Brooke Froment, who put up 16 points in the second half. In the end it came down to the wire as the Vikings were able to keep their lead and take the game 74-69.

After the game, Thunder head coach Robbie Valpreda commented, "I thought tonight we played extremely hard and battled back when they made4 runs tonight. Brooke Forment put us on her back and did everything she could. Ultimately we have to be better at doing the little things and finishing when we need it the most. This was a great team effort for such a young team.

The One Team Sports Players of the game were #9 Lauren Cardinal for the Augustana Vikings and #9 Kaelyn Bryks for the Concordia Thunder.

Tomorrow evening they head to Augustana to finish the weekend match up. They return to action Sunday, February 6th, afternoon to play the Keyano Huskies at home.
