EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Keyano Huskies Saturday afternoon to close out their weekend series. The game was a back and forth affair, with both teams winning two sets so that the match went the distance. However, the Huskies took control of the fifth set early and did not look back as they took the match 3-2.
The Thunder started off the game extremely strong as they took an early lead in the first set. The Huskies kept it close though, and made their move at the end of the set, coming from behind to win the first set 25-23. Keyano carried this momentum into the second set as they jumped out to an early lead and withstood the Thunder comeback attempts to take the second set 25-16. The Huskies again started the third set strong, jumping out to an early lead. But the Thunder kept things close and made their move at the end of the set, overtaking the Huskies late to take the set 26-24. The fourth set saw both teams exchange leads throughout the set, but the Thunder again took a late lead and held on as they took the set 27-25 to extend the match to a fifth set. The firth set, however, saw Keyano jump out to an early lead and hang on as they took the set 15-6 and the match 3-2.
This concludes the weekend series between the Thunder and Huskies, with the Huskies taking both games. The Thunder return home next Saturday as they host the NAIT Ooks for Senior's Night and to close out their regular season home schedule.
