Concordia Thunder Women's Soccer History

Beginning conference play in the Alberta College Athletics Conference (ACAC) during the 1993 season, the Concordia Thunder women’s program is one of the original athletic programs at Concordia. The Thunder women’s soccer program is also one of the most successful programs at Concordia. First making the playoffs in 1999, the women’s soccer team has made the playoffs in every year but two since. The program has captured two ACAC Conference Championships in 2009 and 2010, with the 2009 Thunder women’s soccer team going on to capture the 2009 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship – only the second national championship in Concordia history at the time. Qualifying for 19 ACAC Conference Championships, the women’s soccer program has medaled 11 times, and made five trips to the CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championships medaling twice. The Thunder women’s soccer program has produced a Concordia Thunder record 62 ACAC All-Conference Athletes through the years, and four CCAA All-Canadians: Amanda Mawanay (2004-05), Alesha Weicker (2008-09), Lindsay Bolland (2011-12), and Lindsay Butler (2012-13). Taking over in 2012, current Head Coach Franco Imbrogno is the longest serving head coach in program history. Under Coach Imbrogno, the women’s soccer program has only missed the playoffs once, and had their most successful regular season yet in 2019, winning 10 of 12 games for 31 points and qualifying for the 2019 CCAA Women's National Soccer Championships.
