Concordia Thunder Women's Basketball History
The Concordia Thunder women’s basketball program began playing in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) in the 1999-00 season. Making the playoffs in just their fourth season of conference play (2002-03), the women’s basketball team went on to play in 12 straight ACAC Conference Championship tournaments. During that run, the Thunder won two ACAC Conference titles in 2004-05 and 2007-08. The 2004-05 women’s basketball team had the most successful basketball season ever at Concordia, going on to be crowned the 2005 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Champions. Through the years, the Thunder women’s basketball program has made 14 ACAC Conference Championships appearances capturing a silver medal in 2005-06 and a bronze medal in 2009-10 to go along with their two conference championships. The program has produced 28 ACAC All-Conference Athletes and four CCAA All-Canadians: Amber Smart (2004-05), Ashley Nealon (2005-06), Cailin Lissel (2008-09), and Jordan Anstice (2009-10). Currently guiding the Thunder is Head Coach Robbie Valpreda, who was named ACAC Coach of the Year during the 2016-17 season. After a two year absence, Coach Valpreda lead the Thunder back to the ACAC Conference Championships in 2016-17 with an 18 win regular season.
