EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder opened their weekend series with the NAIT Ooks Friday night with a thrilling 79-75 loss. NAIT jumped to an early lead, but the Thunder fought back hard and held a lead for the majority of the game, before both teams exchanged three pointers in the last six seconds to send the game to OT.
NAIT started the game strong, jumping out to a quick and early lead, finishing the first quarter with a 19-11 lead. The Thunder rallied back in the second quarter, however, outscoring the Ooks 21-10 in the quarter to hold a 32-29 lead at the half. The third quarter saw a strong push back from the Ooks, but the Thunder held their ground and extended their lead to 51-40 after three. The fourth quarter saw a huge push back from NAIT as they closed the gap and hit a buzzer beater three point shot to tie the game at the end of regulation. Both teams began overtime by exchanging baskets, but it was ultimately the NAIT Ooks that pulled ahead, winning the game by a 79-75 score.
The Thunder and Ooks continue their cross-town rivalry when they meet again tomorrow night. The Thunder will be looking to bounce back from this heart breaking loss for the weekend split.
