Bouchard Named 4th Head Coach In Thunder Men's Hockey History

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder are excited to announce that Joey Bouchard will be joining the Thunder Hockey program as Head Coach for the 2019-20 season.

Prior to joining the Thunder, Bouchard has spent previous seasons coaching and managing the Drayton Valley Thunder (2017-18) and the Whitecourt Wolverines (2012-2016) of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Additionally, Bouchard was also an assistant coach for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (2016-17) and the University of Alberta Golden Bears (2010-2012). Bouchard is no stranger to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference as he had spent his collegiate career playing for the Augustana Vikings from 2002-2005.

Athletics & Recreation Director Joel Mrak feels confident about the new hire, stating "Joey has a very accomplished resume, is very well connected in the hockey community, and really understands the importance of the educational goals of a student-athlete. We are really excited to see the style of hockey he will bring to the program, and think that he is a great fit for our department, our hockey program, and our student-athletes.".

Coach Bouchard is eager to take the reins of the hockey program and to begin preparing for the upcoming season stating, "I am excited to have the opportunity to coach for this program and Concordia University of Edmonton. I am looking forward to getting to know the student-athletes, faculty and staff on campus over the next few weeks".

Teaching has always been a passion for Bouchard –  currently he is a Curriculum Consultant for Wellness Education with the Government of Alberta and is a sessional Instructor in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Leder School of Business at The Kings University in Edmonton. He takes great pride in helping students prepare for life after school stating, "I intend to promote educational growth and development for student athletes to reach their full potential."  Bouchard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta, Augustana (2005), a Bachelor of Education degree from Kings University (2007), and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Victoria (2018).
