EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton Department of Athletics & Recreation highlights Day 4 of the Thunder’s 11 Days of Giving campaign, as the student-athletes and teams have come together during this holiday season to give back to our community.
The Men’s Volleyball team collected new toys from local businesses, friends, and family, and were pleased to donate over 150 items to Toy Mountain in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers, and Big Sisters of Edmonton and area. Carson Hilburn, a 3rd year member of the men’s volleyball team was excited to help out the cause, saying “It was amazing that our team had the opportunity to give back to the community and I think there was no better way to do it than to donate toys to kids that really need it.”. Teammate Nathan Lane echoed Hilburn’s comments, stating “We are happy and lucky to be able to contribute through Toy Mountain to make Christmas brighter for some less fortunate children.”.
Noting that this year has been tough on everyone, Head Coach Lucas Jacobson added “I am very proud of how the guys rallied around this cause and did a great job collecting donations. It was a great show of community by these 16 young men. Hopefully it can provide some distraction and joy to children in need around the city.”. 3rd year setter Chad Sieben concluded “The best part of the holidays is bringing happiness to others, it was great to have the opportunity to do this through Toy Mountain.”.
Toy Mountain is sponsored by CTV News, Virgin 104.9, TSN 1260, The Bear 100.3, Trail Appliances, Cashco, Boston Pizza, and AMJ Campbell. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off to any Trail Appliances or Cashco space in the city. Additional information for Toy Mountain can be found at https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/toy-mountain.
More about the Thunder 11 Days of Giving Campaign:
With all of the struggles of the world in 2020, the student-athletes, coaches, and staff of the Thunder Department of Athletics & Recreation wanted to take this time of pause to get involved in our local community, and make it a better place right in time for the holidays. The 11 Days of Giving campaign challenged all of our student-athletes and teams to find a unique way to take advantage of this gift of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and find a way to help those who need it most around us.
